The BEE Award recognizes excellence in any clinical or non-clinical member of the CHS staff (other than nurses who are eligible for a separate award called The DAISY Award). Patients, visitors, physicians, volunteers, nurses, and other employees may nominate a deserving team member.
Carrie is one of four nominees—along with Certified Nurses Aides Kacie Hoch and Nicole Merwin and Environmental Services Supervisor Toby Paige—who display excellent character and commitment in the care they deliver to patients and colleagues. A selection committee reviews nominations without seeing the staff names.
“We are exceptionally proud of these four nominees,” said CHS Chief Executive Officer Joben Rieth. “They represent the best of what we aspire to throughout Coffey Health System. The BEE Award is special because it recognizes the impact all associates can have on the patient/resident’s experience.”
Christina Stohs (pictured above) nominated Carrie for the care she gives residents at CHS’s assisted living department, The Meadows. Carrie has coordinated activities for twelve years and worked closely with the residents.
Stohs read her nomination at the presentation: “Carrie is the most unique, caring, and compassionate caregiver at The Meadows. My grandparents became residents of The Meadows in 2016. Upon their arrival, Carrie welcomed them as if she was ‘assigned’ to them as a caregiver. She knew the transition was difficult and did ‘everything’ to make it as easy as possible. My grandfather (who died in 2020) was a very ornery yet witty old man. He would tease her and joke with her every time he saw her, and she would give it right back to him. I was so impressed with how she didn’t even have to try to make him laugh. She was just herself with him and he favored her for it. Carrie took time out of her day on a regular basis to make it a point to stop in and visit with them. She didn’t have to, that wasn’t her job, she did it because she truly cared. After he passed, my grandmother was struggling as COVID didn’t allow for any visitors. She had never lived alone. It was hard. Carrie went above and beyond to make sure she included my grandmother in any and all activities she might be interested in. To this day, my grandmother will tell you that Carrie has a special place in her heart and still very much enjoys her time with Carrie. I don’t think you can ask for anything more than that. A bond built from compassion, kindness and the will to help even when you don’t have to. She’s continued to go the extra ‘miles’ it takes to ensure my grandmother is more than just taken care of but that she is genuinely happy. The whole Stohs family is so grateful for Carrie and feels extremely blessed that she is in my grandmother’s life.”
Nominations for both the BEE and DAISY awards can be submitted online at 79qll21c.backroomtasting.com/patient-experience. To receive a nomination form, contact Shelly Moss at (620) 364-4550.
“Simply having someone take the time to write a thoughtful nomination is—in and of itself—worthy of acknowledgment,” said Moss. “Special pins are presented to all nominees to recognize their work. These pins also help build awareness of The BEE Award and ensure meaningful recognition goes on all year long.”
